KID ROCK in PHILLY

Went to Philly for the day on Sat to tool around, and to see Kid Rock at night in Camden. I like a few of his songs, but didn't expect much. I expected the usual hip-hop circus, but he came with a rockin', hard-drivin' band, and a much-improved voice.

Philly, of course, at least the South Philadelphia where I spent most of my day (Fresh Prince ref.) is not much-improved.

Who's Next

I went to see this band at BB Kings last week called Who's Next (http://www.whosnexttribute.com/mainhome.html)

I mean this coming from a hard core Who fan, who had every reason to beleive that this was gonig to be a monumental waste of time. I was very impressed and would ge see them again in a minute.

Mardi Gras '06

So, I sent out the Mardi Gras pix, I might as well tell a little story about my trip.

Mardi Gras, New Orleans, 2006

The city is habitable, but the devastation is obvious EVERYWHERE. Especially out in the lower lying areas. After six months there are still boats in the streets, overturned cars, ripped off and ripped up houses everywhere, and an eerie ghost of a high-waterline that seems to follow you everywhere.

On my first day there I get invited up onstage with a rockin' southern band. Played some SRV and some Doors.

Afterward someone came over and offered to buy my *incredible* boots. Black Lizard, 1849 Brand, got them about 2 yrs ago in AUSTIN and they're awesome. I mean they WERE awesome.

This guy offered me $400 for my BOOTS. I talked him up to $500. AND I TOOK IT!

I peeled off my favorite boots, and walked home in my socks. UCK

I found *superb* replacements in New Orleans, but decided I could get better, and cheaper, on 8th street.

MORE TO FOLLOW!

'Nothing Stops Mardi Gras' was the theme of this party.

adios,
Michael

200 Years

Way to set the collective society back 200 years! South Dakota, the religious, backwards, backwoods freaks that they are, just outlawed abortions for ANY reason, except the life threat of the mother. This is so far to the right it's just wrong. (bad pun, I should remove that)

Kids do dumb things. I've made every mistake in the book -- twice, and if I had to pay a life sentence for each one (which is what forcing a 16 yr old girl to have child is) than I'd be a much different person right now. I'd be even meaner and less social. (I can't spell 'ornery')

If some 50 yr old CEO gets raped (are there 50 yr old female CEOs in SD? I doubt it, but...) than why should she be forced to have that child?

There are going to be more backroom abortions, botched abortions, children left in dumpsters, unwanted, unloved children, and suicides because of this.

Let's fire up the scoreboard and start the side-betting.

FLYING TOMATO

FLYING TOMATO

Not the best nickname, but certainly one that will stick with you. I ran into the 19 year old gold medal winner (or is that Gold Medal Winner) in Times Sq this morning. I think it's cool that the biggest star to come out of these games was a geeky kid with long hair.
